Global brands head to Hamburg this April to demonstrate exciting and refreshing onboard options

Changing appetites for beverages onboard has resulted in a greater demand for variation – both for consumption onboard and as part of the inflight travel retail offering. Air, rail and cruise operators now face the challenge of meeting the expectations of those passengers looking for something new; that fit their health-conscious lifestyles and often, in the case of millennials who drink less than their parents’ generation, an exciting and refreshing alternative to traditional spirits and alcoholic beverages.

At the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE®) 2018, visitors can keep abreast of the latest trends impacting the beverage market while sampling the new products making waves in the industry.

Responding to market research, which reveals that more than a quarter of 16 to 24-year-olds do not drink, compared with just over a fifth of the broader adult population , Be-Mocktails (stand 3B78) will join the line-up in Hamburg for the first-time in 2018 to launch its alcohol-free cocktails, made from coconut water and real fruit juices. The range is 100% natural and features three different flavours: Be-Grateful, a mix of coconut water, pineapple, graviola and lemon; Be-Alive which includes coconut water, blueberry, blackcurrant and acai; and Be-Beautiful, a combination of coconut water, pomegranate, aronia and gooseberry.

Also serving up non-alcoholic cocktails, EFB FZC - Ennstal Milch KG (stand 1D100) will bring its TWISST brand to the show to promote its mocktails, which includes four new varieties for 2018: the TWISST Virgin Mary, TWISST Cuba Libre, TWISST Margarita and TWISST Aperol Spritz.

Another new exhibitor for 2018, Bless International Group Limited (stand 1D104) will showcase its cold-pressed juices. The products, currently available on Cathay Pacific Airways, include 12 variations including Fuji Apple Earl Grey Tea, Pineapple Jasmine Tea, Cold-Pressed Apple Juice and Skin Angel Juice, designed to encourage healthy skin with high levels of vitamin C and other important antibiotic properties to rejuvenate and protect. It includes pineapples from the Philippines, Asian pears from China and limes from Thailand and is one of the most popular products in the current Bless portfolio.

For visitors looking for soft drinks, a wide range of popular brands will be available on the show floor. Award-winning, handcrafted soft drinks, tonics and mixers will be available from Franklin & Sons Ltd (stand 3C57) while Radnor Hills (stand 2B20) will promote its Radnor Hills Spring Water, Fruella Juice and Hydrate brand along with the Heartease Farm Premium Presses – a low sugar, low calorie premium range of adult soft drinks.

With millennials largely favouring soft drinks over alcoholic beverages, there is still a significant opportunity for drinks brands onboard – both on inflight menus and as part of the travel retail offering. Premium brands are increasing in popularity and reflect the wider trends in the market. For example, in the UK the premium spirits market grew by 9.9% to £1.2 billion in 2017 and remains a ‘key driver’ for the overall spirits sector.

Demonstrating the power of premium brands, Ovin Pion (stand 4B46) will bring its award-winning vodka to the show. Using only the finest ingredients, Ovin Pion vodka is made from quality French Winter Wheat and distilled using spring water from Gensac La Pallue, one of the clearest springs in the world. It is available in 50ml, 700ml and 1 litre bottles as well as exclusive gift boxes – all of which will be available on the stand.

A host of new products will also be showcased by WTCE exhibitors in the newly expanded Exhibitor Villages, comprising four zones dedicated to first time exhibitors across Halls A1-A4, including Thistly Cross (stand 1A100). The Scottish cider maestros will launch their brand new Cloudy Cider, Cloudy 5.5%. It is the seventh addition to its current portfolio of six core Thistly ciders which includes Original 6.2%, Traditional 4.4%, Real Strawberry, Real Ginger, Real Elderflower and Whiskey Cask Cider, complementing its craft collaborations, seasonal and special editions.

New exhibitor Justbe Gmbh & Co. KG (stand 1E104) will also reveal its new flavoured sparkling wines with visitors invited to try its BeHugo with elderflower and mint; BeSprizz with orange, bitter herbs and mint; BeBerry with cranberry, strawberry and mint; and BeRhubarb with rhubarb and strawberry. Returning for its fifth year at WTCE, Bottega Spa (4C35) will showcase its range of Italian premium quality wines and spirits including its Bottega Limoncino and Bacur Gin Bottega.
